“Get the most from the best trainers”
Etco is New Zealand’s leading provider of electrical training and apprentices. We provide training for more than 60 % of all electrical apprentices in New Zealand. We are New Zealand’s largest employer of apprentices and place them with host electrical companies through our group apprenticeship scheme.
Why become an apprentice?
Qualified electricians are in high demand, and our industry expertise opens unique opportunities and launches careers. All electricians start at the beginning – with an apprenticeship. This is where you learn the technical stuff, both on the job and in the classroom. There are some big benefits to being an apprentice:
A variety of experiences.
No two days are the same! You’ll get the chance to work on a wide range of jobs throughout your career.
Start your career with no student loan.
Earn a wage from day one and finish your apprenticeship without a massive loan hanging over your head!
Work that suits your lifestyle.
Work in different places instead of being stuck in the same office all day. As your career grows, you’ll have more freedom and flexibility in your schedule to fit in more time for the things that matter, such as family, hobbies, and interests.
Etco Pre-Trade Programmes
No NCEA Level 2 but keen on Electrical?
An electrical pre-trade is a pre-apprenticeship program designed to provide the foundational skills and knowledge needed to begin a career in the electrical trades. All the learning takes place in a training centre.
Etco’s programme offers training in electrical servicing, so if you decide you don’t want to do an apprenticeship you still have some great skills that will give you a foot in the door.
During the course, you’ll learn about things like electrical safety, how electricity works, how electrical systems and components are put together, and how to do practical tasks like wiring and testing, which opens a wealth of opportunities for careers in exciting fields such as home automation, electrical servicing, data communication, and beyond.
Graduates will receive a NCEA level 3 NZ Certificate in Electrical Engineering Theory and will be able to apply these skills under supervision by a licenced electrical worker, in accordance with the Electricity Act 1992 and any subsequent amendments.
